In these proceedings the Ocean Studies Board and the Board on Life Sciences ad hoc Committee on Marine Biotechnology summarize and integrate information obtained from two workshops on Marine Biotechnology (October 5-6, 1999, and November 5-6, 2001). We use that information as a basis for recommending promising research areas in marine biotechnology.
