NOAA requested from the National Research Council (NRC) a science plan for research on the human dimensions of seasonal-to-interannual climate variability, the current focus of the NOAA Human Dimensions program. The resulting NRC report, Making Climate Forecasts Matter, lays out the state of knowledge and scientific priorities for this area of research, and it provides a valuable set of references and a list of the critical scientific questions to be addressed in the coming years. All researchers interested in the NOAA Human Dimensions program are highly encouraged to read this book, particularly chapter six on Scientific Priorities.
