For a quick introduction to ERDDAP, watch the first half of this
video
(5 minutes).
In it, a scientist downloads ocean currents forecast data from ERDDAP to model a toxic spill in the ocean using NOAA's GNOME software (in 5 minutes!). Thanks to Rich Signell. (One tiny error in the video: when searching for datasets, don't use AND between search terms. It is implicit.)

ToolUI is a GUI intrerface to much of the functionality in the CDM library, which reads many different binary file formats besides netCDF, such as HDF, GRIB, NEXRAD, etc, and makes the data accessible through a standard API. |
NCDUMP generates a text representation of a specified netCDF file on standard output. The text representation is in a form called CDL (..network Common Data form Language..) that can be viewed, edited, or serve as input to NCGEN. NCGEN is a companion program that can generate a binary netCDF file from a CDL file. Hence NCGEN and NCDUMP can be used as inverses to transform the data representation between binary and text representations. |
